Scalp micropigmentation FAQ
Clear information about what micropigmentation can do, its limitations, the process and prior assessment.
Are you comparing options? See the guide to choosing scalp micropigmentation in Barcelona, with criteria for assessing technique, real cases, price and type of treatment.
What is scalp micropigmentation?
It is an aesthetic procedure that places tiny pigment dots on the scalp to visually imitate hair follicles or reduce the contrast between skin and hair.
Does micropigmentation make hair grow?
No. It does not create follicles, increase the number of hairs or stop alopecia. It produces a visual effect.
Can it be done with long hair?
Yes, in suitable cases. Treatment is carried out between the existing hairs so the scalp is less visible. This is common in density work.
How many sessions are needed?
It is built over several sessions. The exact number depends on the size of the area, skin type, pigment retention and the result you want to achieve.
Why is all the density not done on the first day?
Because a conservative first session allows retention to be observed and reduces the risk of saturation. Later sessions are used to reinforce and integrate the result.
How long does scalp micropigmentation last?
There is no identical duration for everyone. Skin type, sun exposure, habits and individual response influence the progressive loss of intensity.
Is it compatible with a hair transplant?
It can be, and it is used as a visual complement in cases where density differences or areas of visible scalp remain. If the transplant is recent, it must be fully healed and the medical team's advice should be followed.
Can it camouflage an FUE or FUSS scar?
In selected cases it can reduce visual contrast, but it does not remove the scar. Scar tissue may retain pigment differently.
Does it work for the crown?
Yes, when the assessment indicates that density work can reduce contrast in the area. It is important to integrate the whorl and adjacent areas.
Can it be done for women?
Yes, especially as a density effect in selected cases with existing hair, fine hair or diffuse loss.
How is a remote assessment carried out?
With clear photographs from the front, sides, top, crown and back. If you still have a good amount of hair, a video parting it also helps.
How is the price calculated?
It depends on the size of the area, the type of work and the sessions needed. That is why the quote is prepared after the case has been assessed.
Do you have a question about your case?
You can write to me and, if needed, send photographs so I can advise you personally.

Does micropigmentation make hair grow?
No. It is an aesthetic technique that changes the visual perception of the scalp using tiny pigment dots. It does not create follicles or stop alopecia.
Can I have micropigmentation if I still have hair?
Yes, in selected cases. The density effect is specifically performed between existing hairs to reduce contrast with the scalp.
Do I need to shave for a density effect?
Usually not. The hair is parted to access the scalp.
How many sessions are necessary?
It depends on the size of the area, skin, retention and goal. The result is built progressively and its evolution is reviewed between sessions.
Can the crown be treated?
Yes, when the case is suitable. The crown requires assessing hair distribution and creating a transition that is coherent with the top area.
Does it work after a hair transplant?
It can be used as a visual complement once the area has fully healed.
Can it camouflage FUE or FUSS scars?
In suitable cases it can reduce their contrast. Scar tissue responds differently, and the result depends on the scar and surrounding hair.
Is the result permanent?
Micropigmentation evolves and loses intensity over time. The rate depends on the skin, sun exposure, aftercare and treatment characteristics.
What if I have active hair loss?
SMP does not treat the cause of hair loss. If there is recent or severe loss or a scalp problem, medical assessment should take priority.
How do I know if I am a suitable candidate?
With clear photographs and, when the hair is long or abundant, a video parting it, I can carry out an initial assessment.
